PC World Computer Bookstore
offers you three ways to
search, all using an intelligent search engine focused on
keywords.
The " Search
Books" where you are prompted in the
left hand navigation bar, will normally be the most efficient option, allowing a search on keywords
in title, contents, subject, publisher, author and ISBN. If you would like to search on a
specific field (or combination of fields), the
'Advanced Search' button in the
top navigation bar will be
your best option.

Quick Search
|
Browsing the PC World Computer Bookstore site is easy. Simply click on any of the subjects listed
in the left-hand bar to take you to a list of defined topics within each area. |

|
A search that focuses on keywords will take the whole word and
see if it can locate that word within the section in the database. The more words that are
used, the more the search engine can focus in on the particular titles you are looking
for.
For example, a search using the keyword Excel brings up over 250 titles, however a
search on Excel 2000 brings up 30 titles. Care must be taken with spelling and shortened
words; just because your search has come up with no results does not mean the book is not
in our database. Try a different keyword from within the title, or use the detailed search
to search on different criteria that you know about a book.
Additional Tips
- Pick words to search on that uniquely identify the book as much as possible.
- Leaving a space between words will only display titles which contain both these words. This also applies to ISBNs, so more than one title can be brought up at once.
- Placing the word OR between words will display titles which contain either of the words in the title.
- If you are not fully sure how a word is spelt, use wildcards in place of the letters you are unsure
of.
- * Can be used in place of one or more characters.
- ? can be used in
place of one character.

| Advanced
Search |
Click on this
link in the top navigation bar to search on the following
criteria: |
| Title |
Type in keywords to look for a specific title. The
more keywords you type in, the smaller your search result. |
|
|
| Contents |
Type keywords to search through the descriptions
and contents given on each book. This will help to find books on specific topics which might not be
mentioned in the book title. |
|
|
| Subject |
A more general search that will allow you to bring up
a list of all titles on a certain subject. This is more focused than a title search since
some books on a subject will not have the subject in the title. It is also more focused
than a description search. Subjects can also be viewed with one click on any of the broad
categories in the left-hand bar. |
|
|
| Publisher |
Enter the publishers name or a keyword in the
publishers name if it has more than word. |
|
|
| Author |
Enter the last name of the author to bring up a list
of books by that author. |
|
|
| ISBN |
This is the 10-digit International Standard Book
Number that is found on the books copyright page or next to the bar code. Each book
is uniquely identified by its ISBN. |
|
|
| User Level |
Refine your search to books for beginners,
intermediate level or advanced. |
|
|
| Upper Price Limit |
Add in the search criteria on how much you wish to
spend. |
|
This allows instant searchability from wherever you are in the site.
Just type in one or more keywords and the Search Engine will bring up a list of relevant
titles. After typing in your keywords press either return or click go.
